Lead Early Years Teacher

  • Reporting to: Nursery Manager

Main duties & tasks

  • To be a key person to a group of children.
  • To interact and engage in play opportunities with children so that their progress is being encouraged in all areas of Grace’s Curriculum.
  • To carry out planning for all key children on an individual basis in a way that supports Grace’s Curriculum and Pedagogy.
  • To engage in positive interactions with children so that you build their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Regularly observe so that you understand what your key children can do and what is important to work on with them next.
  • To write developmental reports for key children, which focus on key achievements and identify any areas that require early intervention or further support.
  • To form warm but professional partnerships with parents and carers, ensuring close communication is maintained.
  • To lead Reflection Times with your team every three months.
  • Encourage and support the continuous professional development of your team.
  • To support the Third in Charge with leading the room.
  • To ensure that the nursery environment is safe and that standards of hygiene are high.
  • To complete accident and incident records.
  • To ensure that all safeguarding procedures are always implemented and carried out effectively.
  • Attend internal and external training as requested.
  • To attend compulsory team meetings and parent evenings.
  • Attend training out of nursery hours as requested.
  • To liaise with external professionals where necessary.

Main responsibilities

  • Communicate honestly and positively with the management team.
  • Act as a partner to the management team.
  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of your room.
  • Being an excellent role model for Early Years Teachers in all areas.
  • Oversee an effective key person system.
  • Find positive ways to audit the overall quality of care, teaching and learning in your room.
  • To provide safe, high-quality care and education for all children in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage and in a way that supports the wider beliefs and values of Grace’s Day Nursery.
  • To encourage the participation and involvement of parents and carers in the Nursery.
  • To act as a Partner to Parents in a supportive and compassionate manner.
  • Always place children in Grace’s Day Nursery at the heart of your work.
  • To be supportive of all policies and procedures of Grace’s Day Nursery.
  • To work effectively as part of a team in a way that is consistent with the business values.
  • To have awareness and understanding of the Sustainability Strategy so that this influences your work.
  • To work in a way that is supportive of the Code of Conduct.
  • To work in a way that is supportive of the Competency Standards.
  • Taking responsibility for your own Continuous Professional Development
